XIANG HOTPOT 香满楼: Reviews & Ratings
When you visit your college town, a visit to the University Plaza is a must. Hoping to try a new spot in Waterloo’s university plaza, we came across Xiang Hotpot (160 University Avenue West, Waterloo, ON). A hotpot joint warmly decorated with elegant panels, this place transfers you to a high dining experience while still retaining its affordability for the nearby student population. When I went there, my friend and I ordered the mapo tofu with a side of rice. The tofu was perfectly tender, soaking up the rich, spicy sauce. The heat from the peppers gave it just the right kick, but the fluffy rice helped balance it out, soaking up all the delicious flavors. Each bite was a perfect blend of spice, savory depth, and comfort. We couldn’t stop talking about how satisfying the meal was! What really stood out was the atmosphere - despite being a cozy spot for students, it felt like a place where you could enjoy a sophisticated meal. Amazing place to go to eat hotpot with your friends or family. Careful when you order something spicy because they mean spicy. Everything was great, my favourite was the beef and enoki mushrooms and this one dessert “fried buns” which was super amazing. The staff were patient and very nice, service was fast which is really nice. This is and amazing spot for hotpot and I would definitely come back here
We know the owner and one of the chefs very well since we come a lot. The dishes are quite authentic Sichuan style and pretty much similar with what you can really find in China. If you love spicy/hot dishes, this is you go-to place in Waterloo. Prices are also reasonable.
went here as a group of 4 on a Friday night and there was no wait. we all got hotpot which was served fairly fast and everything tasted fresh and cooked nicely. was about $45 per person before tip! unlimited pops and comes with dessert (ice cream) at the end.
The best dishes I had since came to Canada, which reminds me of my hometown and my grandparents. Delicious spicy food and enthusiastic service. If you stay in Waterloo for a few days, please don’t miss it. Highly recommend their special sausages.
